The New Curriculum 2014
At Portesham we embrace an enriching and creative curriculum. You will hear the children talk about ‘learning dimensions’. This is the term we give to our focus areas of study. Through the dimensions children will fulfil all the requirements of the new National Curriculum 2014 and more. They offer a very child led approach which really engages the children through their ownership of the learning.
If you follow the links below, you will see the dimension plan overviews. If you click on the pictures they will open up in a larger PDF format. Each class has their own. If you need more information please request a meeting with the class teacher.
The learning dimensions were originally designed around the need to make the learning in our school more creative and focused on the local area. These factors were a joint decision made between the parents, staff and governors of the school at several learning to learn evening sessions.
The dimensions are configured on a two year rolling cycle. This ensures excellent coverage of the new curriculum. It also enables staff and pupils to approach the dimensions differently every time by trying new ideas and make past successes even better.
To keep our curriculum in line with the government expectations, we have had to adjust some of the dimensions to accommodate the more extensive history elements of the new National Curriculum. 2014.
If you would like to know more about the expectations of the new curriculum just pop in and ask to chat to Mr Brown. He would be happy to help.
