We pride ourselves on our ability to allow children the chance to participate in a range of sports at Portesham. Children not only have the opportunity to do sport in school but out of school as well. At the moment we have both a football and archery squad who are regularly training in school and taking part in competitions against other teams in Chesil.

We also organised a sports week in 2015 which consisted of a wet water afternoon along with other sporting events such as cricket, golf, swimming, dance and even rafting!

Please take a look at some pictures of our future sporting stars in action…

Physical Education at Portesham

For this academic year our Sports Premium grant was just over £ 8,400. We’ve spent the money wisely to help support the needs of our pupils.

For the academic year 207-2018 we are expecting to the sports funding to be doubled. If this is the case we are planning to use some of the extra money to take the KS1 and Reception children swimming.

NASH Cup Girls Champions 2016 and 2017 ! Will they do it in 2018 ?

Nash Cup - Champions 2017

Football  Archery

I write this as a very proud head teacher in deed. On Friday 10th March the Portesham Girls football squad, managed by Aaron McGrath, repeated their success of 2016 and won the NASH cup for a second year in succession. The team played to a formation repeatedly practiced on the training ground. One which will remain secret ! On the day the girls blew aside all opposition. St Johns put up the greatest fight in the Semi Final - even scoring against us. However, it wasn’t enough and the girls went on to the final where they destroyed Radipole 5-0. Well done girls !

NASH Cup Boys 2017

The boys team performed brilliantly. They drew their first two games and unfortunately lost 1-0 to the eventual Cup winners, St Johns. Everyone commented on how well drilled the team was and also the individual excellence of our amazing goal keeper. The Semi against St Nicks was the game of the tournament and even though we lost by a golden goal everyone will remember Eli’s goal. It was a rocket volley on the turn at least 15 metres from goal straight in to the top right corner - what a strike !

Yr 6 Netball - HIGH 5

In Early March (2017) our HIGH 5 netball team went off to Budmouth to compete in a regional tournament. This was only our second game, EVER! The first we lost 12 - 1 to DMS. However, things went a lot better this time which shows that practice does make perfect. We lost 2 but WON 2. We’ll continue to drill and practice thanks to Miss Whisker’s passion for netball and come the summer perhaps we should challenge DMS to another match ?

Well done team.

In case you’re wondering, The Nash Cup is the rather large trophy at the back!
